Summer Wellness

The qualities of the fire element are strong in the SUMMER.

Fire is hot, light, dry, rough, sharp, clear, mobile and flowing.

You might be off balance if you are experiencing;

Sensitivity to heat, lethargy, rashes, redness, diarrhea , sharp temper, sarcasm, irritability, anger, judgmental, dryness and eczema, blood sugar imbalances, acid reflux, burning sensation and inflammation or pain in the body.

Some ways to soothe the excess fire which can also lead to excess wind include:

Eating more grains like basmati rice, oatmeal, barley and ancient grain wheat.

A fast way to balance is to favor sweet and astringent ripe fruits like;

Cherries and all berries, apples, apricots, coconuts, mangoes, persimmons, grapes, melons, pears, pineapples (ripe and sweet) and plums ripe and sweet)

Vegetable that are ideal include:

Artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, celery, cucumbers, cilantro, potatoes, jicama, pumpkin, zucchini, watercress, sweet potatoes, green beans, leafy greens, okra, lettuce, snow peas.

Coconut oil and olive oil are optimal for this season because they aren’t heating.

As far as meats, favor poultry and try to eliminate spicy and extra salty or sour foods.

Use maple syrup as a sweetener this time of the year to increase the earth and water energies so that you won't heat.

For Dairy use small amounts of ghee, milk and butter.

Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are ideal.

The fire element energy brings radiance and transformation into our world; it is a brilliant source of light and power when it is in balance and when it isn’t it can be destructive.

We are a combination of all nature's great elements and we possess all of their qualities. But each season increases some elements and reduces others, it is wise to begin to notice these shifts in effort to navigate the subtle and not to subtle effects on the mind and body.

If you are experiencing any of the Fire imbalances, follow these suggestions and try to take it easy. Other ways to support yourself this season:
